Five Reasons why you must attend the Sushant Lok Durga Puja Festivals!

This article has also been published in What's Up Life!Gurgaon Moms and Suburb magazine.

1.  “Atithi devo bhavaa”

Well, here’s an offer you cannot turn down. Sushant Lok Committee invites you to be a part of their celebrations for all days throughout the season. It is an unconditional invitation, and there are no costs or frills to it. Be their guest!!

Yes, you heard it right! Sushant Lok Durga Puja welcomes you to come for the prasadam and the afternoon lunch bhog everyday. Led by Mrs. Sarnali Roy, the Bhog Committee of Sushant Lok Durga Puja arranges and hosts free lunches for all guests through the entire four days of the Puja celebrations. They do not have a card system or a membership clause to the invitations; neither do they have a separate area for paid and unpaid categories of visitors. They are among the very few pujas, possibly the only one in Gurgaon, who have maintained this tradition of free inclusion and open invitation through the long many years of celebration.

One of the oldest and biggest Durga Puja in Gurgaon, this year, they turn seventeen years old. For
your perusal, please find the Puja schedule as below:

2.  Contests, Fun activities, Games!!

If you thought Puja Prasad and lunch are the only attractions at the venue, you were wrong. This year, the Fun and Contest Committee led by Mrs. Isha Bhowmick has undergone a thorough makeover, and Sushant Lok Committee is glad to present before you a wide range of activities planned for the afternoons that will engage the kids and the grown-ups alike!

Sit and Draw, Recitation contests, Spot Question-Answer-Prizes to Quiz, Dhunuchi naach, candle-lighting contest and many more… they are sure to keep you very busy!

Just, make sure you register yourself with the desk before the contests.

And the prizes will be worth fighting for, too!

3.  Cultural Evenings and Star attractions!

They say - a Bengali celebration is incomplete if not wrapped up with music and other rich cultural programmes. In keeping with the tradition, dear ladies and gentlemen, the Cultural Committee of Sushant Lok Durga Puja, led by Mrs. Munmun Basu, presents before you the menu for five consecutive evenings of rich entertainment programmes.

4.  Exhibition Cum Sale:

Sushant Lok Durga Puja Committee is excited to announce its first ever annual Exhibition cum Sale during the occasion of Durga Puja festivals. Starting this year, several entrepreneurs from not just Gurgaon but also from other parts of the country will showcase their exclusive products and merchandise items at the designated Exhibition Area adjacent to the main Mandir. The products and services will range from Cottage Industry items to special deals from Corporate brands. To cite a few examples, the Exhibition will feature Bhagalpuri Silk sarees, Assamese Mekhla dresses to Patiala suits, from travel kits to rich collection of ladies handbags, and Bed linens and upholstery to a wide, attractive range exclusively designed custom jewelry sets.

The committee will also host free of cost Medical Camps at the Exhibition area during the festival days.

Do visit the Exhibition area inside the Puja campus to look at the wide range of offerings!

5.  Food Court!

But, can a Bengali celebration close without food, either? Right, dear ladies and gentlemen! Bengalis are famous or infamous across the globe for their foodie edge, and Puja times are no exceptions. The Sushant Lok Durga Puja Committee throws open an elaborate Food Court this season, with Vegetarian and Non-vegetarian rich delicacies from across the country. The buzz goes that this year, they’ve been able to put in place a most widely-ranged cuisine, covering exquisite varieties. North Indian fast food and a wide, luring range of street foods to Kolkata style Biryani and Rolls, and then, authentic Mughlai-khaana such as Nihari, Halim and Khamiri Rotis to succulent kebabs and starter dishes And of course, not to forget, the rich Italian Pastas, or delectable Oriental and Thai dishes. Oh, and the unparallel Tundey Kebabi, a Lucknow speciality! Watch out for it!
